On the 5th of Febraury STT proudly presented their final publication "Het vervoer van morgen begint vandaag" (Dutch) in Madurodam, The Hague about the future of transportation in The Netherlands - a vision for the year 2040.
Over the last 3 years Ai Applied, together with leaders from industry and government , enthusiastically participated (pictures) in a think tank about transportation in 2040. We helped develop a vision on society of 2040s and contributed knowledge about social impact of new technologies. The think tank was organised by STT, a non-profit organisation financed by contributions from companies and the Dutch government. STT explores new trends and develops inspiring foresights on technology and society. For that purpose STT facilitates a free space in which enthusiastic stakeholders meet and construct creative views on the future. The results serve as starting points for new initiatives, such as national (applied) research programs or public-private cooperation.
Participants included, among others, the Dutch ministries of Transportation and Public Spaces Planning, IBM, Siemens, TomTom, Thales, Cisco Systems, Cap Gemini and other industry representatives together with prominent technical universities and institutes.
The questions for this study involved how transportation in the Netherlands would look like in thirty years time. Why and how are we travelling in 30 year times? Which new technologies can we anticipate? The think thank contributed to constructing views about autonomous operating vehicles, advanced spatial planning and the role of represented and augmented reality in transport. The potential social impact of these anticipated changes in technology was also extensively discussed. This publication concludes STT's research project about the future of our transportation that was initaited in 2010.
